Marianne Cornetti was born in Cabot, Pennsylvania and she obtained a diploma in music and singing from Duquesne University and perfected her studies in Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and in the Manhattan School of Music. She became a member of the Pittsburgh Opera Centre, where she trained under the guidance of Maestro Tito Capobianco. Marianne Cornetti has a varied repertoire which includes Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Charlotte in Werther, Fidalma in Il Matrimonio segreto, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck, Rosina in Barbiere di Siviglia, Queen of the Gypsies in The Bohemian Girl by Balte, the first girl in Elektra by Strauss, the second and the third lady in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, the Russian Nanny in Death in Venice by Benjamin Britten and Lillian in Happy End by Kurt Weill. The artist has recently sung in the Pittsburgh Opera in Mefistofele and in Barbiere di Siviglia. She also sang in the Metropolitan in New York, at the Wolftrap Opera and at the Ascona Opera. Some of the prizes won by Marianne Cornetti are: Catherine Shouse/Wolftrap Opera Career Grant, Shoshana Foundation "Richard F. Gold Career Grant" and Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs Award in 1990. |
